JAPN 305 - Introduction to Japanese Culture and Civilization
This course introduces various aspects of Japanese culture, including history, geography, religion, government, politics, customs and traditions. After a broad historical overview beginning in prehistory, this course focuses on the Tokugawa period as the bedrock for understanding modern Japanese society as a mass society. Taught in English.
In this class, we studied many aspects of Japanese culture that tanged from the old period to recent period of Japan, including literature, samurai, religion, geography, tourism and so on. I particularly never care about literature, but it was interesting to learn about the writers (ladies) who are worldwide known and studied in schools. In addition, learn about how the life’s style that had changed along the period. I also learned about the difference in religion (Buddhism and Shintoism) which I never understood before. Although all topics were interesting, I thought it was too much for a semester because I would like to learn deeper on each topic.
My final paper was about Japanese Literature, Samurai and Religion as I am attaching below and our final presentation, which was about a tour plan in seven days including five provinces. It also is attached below.
