HCOM 346: African American Life/History
An introduction to the historical and cultural narratives that shape African American identities and experiences. The course focuses on such themes as African roots of African-American culture, freedom and inequality, black folklore and artistic expressions, migration, family and kinship, community and identity.
To fulfill another Japanese major requirement, we need to take a secondary culture course besides the Japanese. I took the Introduction to African American History & Life.
In this class, we explored the history and culture of African-Americans, going back for the roots in African and how slavery there started. The way they came to America and other countries, how they suffered in the Middle Passage and how were they lives as slaves. It focused in the African-Americans identities and experiences, moreover in freedom and inequality.
